“Creating Perspectives: Business for Development (East Africa)” is an initiative of the East African Community (EAC), the East African Business Council (EABC), the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German government represented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Partnerships between East African and German companies to jointly create business opportunities is the key objective of Creating Perspectives, based on a mutual network.
Jim Kabeho, EABC Chairman (2017– 2018) & Director Madhivani Group Ltd.: “The SME sector is of great importance for all EAC economies. ‘Creating Perspectives’ is an action-oriented pilot project that supports SMEs within the region to become more competitive, productive and innovative as well as connect them to the German industries. With BDI’s business network in Germany and EABC’s support towards its member organizations, I am sure we will achieve our goal to create long-lasting business partnerships between German and East African SMEs.”
To turn this idea into practice, the initiative seeks to identify companies in the EAC region operating in production or manufacturing in various sectors interested to enter global partnerships with German peers. The companies should be active on the market for about 3 years or more, have an annual turnover of USD 50,000 to USD 5,000,000 and at least 10 employees.
What does Creating Perspectives offer?
The key idea is to bring competitive companies from EAC and Germany together to jointly create business, enter new markets or jointly develop innovative
solutions. Companies selected for the programme will have access to needs-based management trainings taking place in the EAC member countries to better prepare them for entering into international business. International experts, offering the best mix of the latest innovative training methods and local know-how will be involved.
Thomas Schäfer, Chairman & Managing Director, Volkswagen Group South Africa: “‘Creating Perspectives’ connects German and East African companies regarding local value creation. A good idea which VW is currently implementing in Rwanda with a view to mobility concepts. It is important to use and strengthen the potential especially of young entrepreneurs, for joint project ideas and thus to contribute to solving the challenges on the ground. “
In order to initiate successful partnerships between companies from EAC and Germany, demand-oriented matching and business events will be launched, embedded in various networking events. A group of German and East African companies will be matched to establish one-to-one mentoring and twinning partnerships in order to initiate cross-cultural business activities. Companies selected for the programme are expected to contribute financially to a certain extend for attending the trainings. Travel expenses will be covered.
